We therefore employ a comprehensive range of security measures that guarantee the confidentiality of your electronic communications.

Access codes and digital signature card.

Each new ruralvía Home Banking customer receives his own set of personal access codes (username, password and telephone PIN), as well as a digital signature card (coordinates card), necessary to guarantee the maximum level of security when conducting banking transactions.

• Username: Personal and non-transferable code. 

• Password: Automatically system-generated code that must be changed by the customer when accessing ruralvía for the first time. It is advisable not to use weak or easily guessed passwords.

• Telephone PIN: Each time a customer accesses the ruralvía Telephone Banking service, by dialling telephone number 902 310 902, he is required to identify himself with his ruralvía username and telephone PIN.

• Digital signature card (Coordinates Card):
  • ruralvía allows customers to perform a wide variety of transactions. In order to guarantee maximum security, the customer will be asked to confirm the transaction by entering the signature coordinate requested by the system.
  • Because of their financial significance, certain transactions such as transfers (national, salary, periodic, abroad and immediate payment) require two signature coordinates.
  • The first coordinate must be entered on the data confirmation screen. Once ruralvía has verified the validity of the first coordinate, the customer will be asked to enter a second coordinate.

All information regarding access to your account is transmitted securely using 128-bit SSL encryption. SSL is currently the most powerful data protection system for websites available and is attested by a certificate issued by Verisign.

The ruralvía screen can be divided into at least two independent parts: the upper part, which contains the header, and the lower part, where you need to enter your access codes and which displays the information provided by the Internet Banking service.

The upper part is not transmitted over the Internet in encrypted format using the SSL protocol, as it does not contain confidential information, thus allowing for a higher data transfer rate and offering the possibility to save the header images on the local browser. The lower part is transmitted over the Internet using the SSL protocol, which implies that the information required for identification as well as the information relating to your financial products are transmitted through secure channels. Both parts are displayed inside a FRAME on a non-encrypted page.

1. To verify that the information transmitted is encrypted when using Internet Explorer browser:

Move the mouse cursor to the lower part of the screen and right-click to open a menu in which the last option is Properties. When you select this option, a window opens up, indicating that the site uses SSL 3.0 with 128-bit encryption.

2. Internet Explorer allows you to configure an option that notifies you when you enter a secure server environment  If this option is deactivated, you can activate it by selecting Tools/Internet Options/Advanced Options. You will find the Security Configuration option in the Advanced Options section. 3. Always type the URL of the website you want to visit directly into the address bar of your web browser.

For security reasons, every time you connect to ruralvía Home Banking, you should first check: The web page address is https. The “s” indicates that you have entered a secure server environment where you can perform your financial transactions with complete security and confidence. The padlock indicates that the website you are visiting is protected against attacks from third parties attempting to gain access to confidential information, thus ensuring your privacy. Phishing

The number of email fraud attempts against financial institutions has increased enormously in recent years. Phishing is one of the most common forms.
 

• This fraud technique consists in the use of different methods to assume an identity (such as that of a financial institution), inviting the recipients to enter their secret access codes on fake websites, in order to gain access to sensitive information that is later used to commit fraud.

• This “identity theft” can be committed through SMS, telephone calls, emails, websites and pop-up windows. The most frequent form of phishing is by email, in which customers are tricked into clicking on a link that takes them to a fake website that looks exactly like the bank´s official website. When you connect to the fraudulent website, you will be asked to provide sensitive personal and financial information. You should therefore NEVER respond to emails asking for your ruralvía password.

• All cases of fraud and attempted fraud are immediately reported to the Guardia Civil (Military Police) or Policia Nacional (National Police) for further investigation.

• Therefore, we want our customers to know that Caja Rural has never and will never ask you for your secret codes by email, in person or over the telephone. Transaction authorisation codes should be used exclusively in the ruralvía secure server environment.

• In case of doubts, do not reveal any financial information and immediately contact our customer assistance service on 902 310 902.

•  Your username and password are personal and non-transferable codes.
  In order to guarantee maximum security, it is important to maintain the confidentiality of these codes. We strongly recommend you not to use weak or easily guessed passwords, or disclose them to third parties, and to change them periodically.

• Do not disclose personal or financial information to anyone. We strongly advise you never to reveal any personal or financial information, unless you are using a secure server and dealing with reliable providers.

• Do not disclose your access codes or secret numbers. The user is fully responsible for all actions carried out by using his access codes. You should therefore never disclose your access codes in environments other than Caja Rural, or when contacted through alternative channels (email, telephone, etc…that claim to be acting on behalf of Caja Rural, making deceitful promises, offering special promotions or gifts, or informing of technical errors that require you to modify your access codes after first entering your current codes. Caja Rural will NEVER ask you for any personal information by email.

• Do not accept documents or files from unknown sources. They offer an easy way of access for dangerous VIRUSES that can seriously damage your computer´s operating system. If the issuer of the document or file is not completely reliable or lacks sufficient credibility, you should not open the document nor click on any of the links provided in the email. It is also important to install, run and regularly update an efficient antivirus program.

• Remember that we will NEVER ask you for your personal information. In order to ensure your security, we will NEVER ask you for personal or financial information and/or access codes in person, by email or over the telephone. If you are asked to disclose any personal information through any of these channels, immediately contact your Bank.

• Remember that we will NEVER ask you for your coordinates unless you are requested to sign a transaction made on the ruralvía website. Remember that transfer transactions (national, salary, periodic, abroad and immediate payment) require two signature coordinates, in order to increase security.

• If you are ever asked to provide any additional information, you should not respond and immediately contact your local branch by telephone on 902 310 902, as it may indicate an attempt at fraud.

• Use the disconnect button. Every time you complete your Home Banking session, it is advisable to press the “disconnect” button in order to exit the system in a secure way.

• Check your last access to ruralvía. Check the date and time of your last connection, as well as your account balance and transaction history, to confirm that no irregularities have occurred.

• Use the latest software versions available. Use antivirus software and other computer protection programs to keep your computer secure. Update them regulary to ensure you are using the latest versions available.
